Getting to Aegiali by Ferry

Getting to Aegiali can be achieved either from the Greek mainland port of Piraeus in Athens as well as from many islands. Aegiali port is in Amorgos island of the Cyclades located east of Naxos and the subcomplex of the Small Cyclades. From there all the ferries to and from Amorgos arrive or depart from. If you’re already in the Cyclades, there are ferry connections between Amorgos and Ios, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros and Santorini. Amorgos does not have an airport, which means that traveling by ferry is the only way to reach the island.

From Athens to Aegiali

From Athens to Aegiali, you have to take the ferry at the port of Piraeus. It’s really easy to get there, as there are regular bus connections between Athens airport and the port. It takes between 5 to 10 hours to reach Amorgos, depending on the ferry.

From Piraeus to Aegiali

Ferries to Aegiali leave from Piraeus, which is the main and biggest port of the Greek capital, situated only 12km away from the city center and arrive in Aegiali port. The duration of the ferry trip from Athens to Amorgos varies from a minimum of 5.5h to a maximum of 8.5h. This depends on the type of vessel (conventional or high-speed), the port of arrival Aegiali, the in-between stops to other islands and of course in some rare occasions the wind conditions.

Aegiali Ferry Port

Aegiali ferry port it’s the second port of the island. It’s located in a very beautiful bay, about 20 kilometers north of Katapola. Aegiali is on the west side of the island and more specifically Aegiali is found in the north part and is one of the most touristicaly developed settlements of Amorgos.
There are many fishing boats which are parked here during the busy days of the year. The Aegiali ferry port is located in the main center of Aegiali. Just up from the port you will find a block of cafes and bars which all give you a splendid sea view.

Transportation in Aegiali

Some beaches of the islands are accessible with a sea bus (traditional fishing boats). From Agios Pavlos you can get to the beaches of the islet of Nikouria.

Many taxis can be found in central spots of the island. Although a taxi is an expensive alternative compared to buses, it is definitely the most comfortable mean of transport and transfers you to your destination fast. Car and Motorbike Rentals

With a car or motorcycle, you can explore the island at your own pace and gain access to the most secluded spots! In case you don't have your own vehicle, there are car and motorbike rental shops in Katapola and in Ormos (in Aegiali). Also, you will find petrol stations on the road linking Katapola, Chora, and Aegiali.

  • Mikri Glifada Beach: only accessible by a walking trail from Tholaria
  • Agios Pavlos Beach: a long sand beach between Katapola and Aegiali
  • The beaches of Levrossos, Psili Ammos and Chochlakies are located close to each other, and are only accessible by boat or by a trail
