There are two ports on the island. One is located in Katapola and another in Aegiali Bay. The capital of Amorgos, Chora with its characteristic Cycladic architecture, is built on a bleak rock in 320 metres height. Also built on a rock, 300 metres above sea level, is one of the most beautiful Greek monasteries, the pearly-white monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa. It was constructed in 1017 and rebuilt in 1088 by the Byzantine Emperor Alexios Komninos. Apart from housing numerous masterpieces of Byzantine ecclesiastical art, the monastery offers a breathtaking view of the sea.
Passengers travelling to the destination Amorgos will meet picturesque villages and magnificent beaches. The beaches Agia Anna and Aegiali are accessible by public service vehicles. To reach the beaches of Agios Pandeleimonas, Faros, Paradisia and Kalotaritissa, which are the most beautiful beaches of the island, a small boat will be necessary.
Amorgos is the most eastern island of the Cyclades. It is located next to Astypalea and other Dodecanese islands.
